Open Question: Questions about the Electoral College?

The Presidential Election is coming up and I have a few questions about the Electoral College: 1. Is it pretty much useless to vote Republican in a blue state like New York and useless to vote Democrat in a red state like Texas or Tennessee? Does your vote really count? 2. Do Democrats have more of an advantage with the elctoral college? I went to a site and made a few "mock maps" and it seems like even if the map looked really red, like the whole middle of the map was red, Obama still either won or was really close because of states like New York and California....
